Bumblebee Nails With Zoya Pixie Dusts!

I'm often in a hurry like so many of us these days & sometimes I just need to make a snap decision about what to do with my nails & go for it. My bumblebee nails were based on one of those quick decisions & I can't believe how much I love the results!
I always paint my nails using a new color (yes it's been months, possibly over a year, since I've started with a polish already in my collection...) & then try to do some nail art on that color the next day. I started with Zoya Solange & then added some thick stripes of Zoya Dahlia. Instant fuzzy bumblebee nails! (Although I suppose flocking powder would really create the ultimate fuzzy bumblebee manicure.)
Just for fun, here's an adorable infographic explaining why bees love hexagons so much.

Zoya Solange

Zoya Solange is a terrific polish from the Summer 2013 Pixie Dust collection.

Zoya PixieDust Special Texture Edition Image

Here's what Zoya has to say about this collection.

Infused with even more magic and wonder! Because everyone wants more of it... The color experts at Zoya went back to the lab and created six more beautiful, long-wearing textured, matte and sparkle Zoya PixieDust Colors for Summer 2013! The incredible and best-selling formula is sure to captivate with a magical sparkle and sugary finish like no other.

IMPORTANT PixieDust Application Information - Do not use a base coat or top coat. Apply 1-3 (for full coverage) thin coats of polish. Allow product to dry down completely matte in between layers for full textured effect. The PixieDust textured formula may take up to 10 minutes to dry completely matte. Once dry, the textured finish is long lasting, matte and ultra-glittery!

Like all of the Pixie Dusts, I'm totally in love with Zoya Solange. It looks like they used the same exclusive pigment for this one as they did in Zoya Kerry (a new favorite!) Solange is a super cheery yellow gold texture polish with tons of sparkle. It's fantastic & unique & one of the best yellow polishes I've ever laid eyes on. Show here at just two easily applied coats; just be sure to wait several minutes between coats.

Concrete & My New Etsy Store!

Some of you may wonder why my blog is called Concrete & Nail Polish. The reason is very simple; I make concrete & I paint my nails! I've recently teamed up with some of my favorite fellow Tulsans to open our new Etsy shop, The Makerage! We'll expand our product line soon but here's a sampling of what's available right now, starting with my Concrete Sphere Bookend.

Another Art Deco Nail Art Attempt With Zoya Pixie Dusts

I've had art deco on the brain lately & this is my second recent attempt at some art deco nails. Still not my best effort but on the right track.
I used Zoya Miranda for the base & added stripes with Zoya Dahlia. Most of the Pixie Dust polishes are excellent for nail art because they stay exactly where you put them (no spreading or pooling) & are very pigmented.

Some day I will do accomplish truly satisfying art deco manicure. Ladies send me your favorite art deco nails or inspiration in the comments!

Zoya Miranda is a raspberry textured shimmer polish. Covers nicely in 2 coats but I noticed I needed to wait a bit longer in between them. Miranda seemed to take more time to dry than my other Pixie Dusts & doesn't seem quite as matte as the rest of them either. Not a bad thing at all, it just looks a little more squshy & jelly like than the others. Another winner in the amazing Pixie Dust series!

Zoya Irresistible Collection Nail Art With Rikki, Bobbi, & Tinsley

This manicure started with a base of Zoya Rikki. I then added a triangle of Tinsley followed by a smaller triangle of Bobbi. It didn't look quite finished so I outlined the triangles with my Sally Hansen Nail Art pen in black.

Comparing Zoya Daul, Faye & Tinsley

I'll let the pictures do the talking. I love them all but I think Faye is still my favorite. All photos show in order from left to right, Zoya Daul, Zoya Faye, & Zoya Tinsley.

Zoya Tinsley

Zoya Tinsley is from the Summer 2013 Irresistible collection.
Tinsley is in the same family as the stunning Zoya Faye & Zoya Daul. They are all very different from each other though. (My next post will be a side by side comparison of these three lovelies.) I used three coats here & no top coat. As with most foils application the dry time is quick but you do need to wait a bit between coats to avoid dragging.

Art Deco Accent Nail With Zoya Bobbi & Kerry

I occasionally help out a fellow Tulsan with his excellent effort to bring authors to town for fabulous, free events. It's called Book Smart Tulsa & I sometimes volunteer my time to show authors around my hometown. I recently had the pleasure of spending the day with the lovely Therese Anne Fowler, author of Z: A Novel of Zelda Fitzgerald. Her book event took place in the gorgeous art deco lobby of the Atlas Life Building. Period appropriate clothing was encouraged for the event & while I didn't have a dress, I was able to do a super quick art deco inspired accent nail.
I used Zoya Bobbi for the base then used striping tape & Zoya Kerry to make my quick design. Not my best effort, but not bad considering the very small amount of time I had that day.

Zoya Bobbi

Zoya Bobbi is from the Summer 2013 Irresistible collection.

Zoya Bobbi is a one coat wonder! Not the most unique polish color but a great classic shade that can get you out the door in a hurry. Only one easily applied coat & no top coat needed since it's a foil. That makes Bobbi a winner in my world!

Lemon Lime Ruffian Nails With Zoya Kerry & Zoya Rikki

I don't do swatch posts as you may have noticed if you follow my blog. I tried a few times way back in the beginning but I just don't enjoy it. That means that every post you see is a full manicure that I've worn for at least a day. I usually try out a new polish & then the next day (or so depending on life) I add some nail art. I couldn't think of anything to do the gorgeous Zoya Kerry which is one of my new favorite polishes. My boyfriend, Will (he has his own tag for blog posts) often helps me come up with ideas. This ruffian color combination is his idea & I like it quite a bit! Zoya Rikki is the green polish.

Zoya Rikki

Zoya Rikki is from the Summer 2013 Irresistible collection.

Zoya Rikki is a medium green metallic foil with tons of bronze particles & other sparkles. It covers nicely in two coats; just be sure to wait a minute or two in between application to avoid dragging. Rikki is my least favorite from this lovely collection but it's still a keeper! Shown here with no top coat since I find foils don't seem to need them.
