Mixing Finishes With Zoya

This is a bit outside of my comfort zone and I'm not sure what I think of the finished manicure but I love the colors. I started with a base of Zoya Rayne and then added a stripe of Zoya Raine - a pretty sheer topper. Finally I added a bit of one of my favorite glitter toppers, Zoya Monet.

Sally Hansen Red Carpet

Sally Hansen Red Carpet is part of the Hard As Nails Xtreme Wear collection. Red Carpet is great rich red jelly filled with red shimmer. Fantastic polish with a wide brush that barely needs a second coat!

Formula X Nova

This is one fabulous coat of Formula X For Sephora Nova. Nova was very easy to apply and I'm always on the lookout for one coat wonder polishes. It takes a little longer to dry than the Zoya Pixie dust polishes and the texture is much rougher but it's a stunning polish. I've never tried any Formula X For Sephora polishes before but I'd love to have the entire Celestials collection if they are anything like Nova!

Simple Nail Art With Zoya Satins

I had some trouble with the formulas of the Zoya Satins collection but they are pretty! Here I started with Zoya Brittany and added a swipe of Zoya Leah.

Revlon Gradient

I love this super simple gradient made with Revlon polishes - Seashell, Banana Blaze, and Cherry Fizz. I started with a base of Seashell and then added Cherry Fizz and Banana Blaze one nail at a time so colors could blend. A foolproof technique that's fast and looks great every time.

My friend Drew makes 3D models for printing and he recently printed this giant anatomical heart. You can download the model to 3D print at Thingiverse! I'm trying to convince him to turn it into a lamp.

Essie Da Bush

Somehow Essie Da Bush ended up in my stash without me ever trying it! I discovered this when I sued it for some nail art and realized that I'd never blogged about before. Too bad since it's a new favorite for sure!

Essie Da Bush is from Essie's Resort collection way back in 2011. It's not part of their current polish lineup but it can still be found online if you do some digging. Da Bush is unique in my collection of green cremes and I find it super flattering plus it goes with most all of my wardrobe. Shown here at 2 easily applied coats with a nice formula. I'll always hate Essie's skinny brush but that is just a personal preference. I didn't want to take this color off of my nails!

Zoya Leslie

Zoya Leslie is from their Spring 2015 Delight collection.
Zoya Leslie is flat out beautiful! I usually change my nails every day but I kept it on for 5 days. This shade looks fantastic on me & I just didn't want to take it off which is very rare for me. The turquoise micro shimmer is simply a gorgeous bonus! Shown here at 2 easily applied coats.

Zoya Ana

Zoya Ana is part of the Naturel Satin Collection for 2015.
Zoya Ana is pretty almond color but the formula just stinks. I'm going to try adding quite a bit of thinner if I ever use Ana again. I really want to love this collection but they just aren't working out for me.

PROS

  • All of the colors are drop dead gorgeous, unique and complement each very nicely. Seriously lovely color choices!
  • Wear time seems very good for a polish meant to be worn without a topcoat, much better than most matte polishes.
  • I love new ideas in polish and the Satin finish definitely appeals to me.
  • The frosted bottles are beautiful.
  • Dry time is good for a polish without topcoat
CONS
  • So far the formula has been super frustrating for me. I feel like I've tried every application technique I can think of with no luck. They just don't self-level well and since they are meant to be worn without a topcoat that is a problem. You also can't go back over an area at all or you will get dragging. I just can't make them work!
  • Some friends think the finish looks like paint for the interior walls of a house or just plain old acrylic paint. I don't think these will have broad appeal to ladies who aren't really into nail polish.
So what's my verdict? You'll have to decide for yourself.  I love the idea of the Zoya Satin collection but I'm still having a lot of trouble with the formula. I'm glad to have them but I feel like they would be very frustrating for the average polish user. And the finish certainly isn't for everyone either. Give them a try if you don't mind a bit of extra work when doing your nails and you love weird finishes like I do.

Simple Star Wars Nails

I got some fun Star Wars stuff from Think Geek for Christmas and today is May the 4th so I decided to do some quick Star Wars nails to match my shirt. I used Zoya Kelly for the background and then drew the Rebel symbol on one accent nail in Zoya Elisa. I can't believe I managed to get the symmetrical logo right! Maybe the force was with me today.
