ORLY Starburst is a milky white jelly polish filled with small red glitter, slightly larger dark orange hex glitter, medium pale gold hex glitter and large white round glitter! The formula was excellent for a polish with so much glitter and I love the idea of this polish but in reality it just didn't quite work for me. While there was no need to fish for large glitters and the polish went on very nicely, the white circles had a tendency to stack on top of each other in tall clumps. I just couldn't get this one to look anything other than lumpy and kind of gross on my nails. It was also a nightmare to remove even at just 2 coats. I was picking off glitter for well over an hour! Cool idea and really good application but this one just isn't for me. I still love the idea of this collection though and there brush handle/cap is my absolute favorite.
Keep up with what I'm reading on Goodreads! Chew is one of my current favorite series!
China Glaze Sun Of A Peach is from their Summer 2013 Sunsational Collection. I'm not a huge neon fan but I thought I'd give this one a try because I needed some color in my world; this December has officially been the least sunniest, most gloomy December on record in Tulsa according to meteorologists! Unfortunately Sun Of A Peach was not a good pick me up. The formula is bubbly streaky mess. The neon orangey peach color is ok but it's almost impossible to photograph. I'd day it's somewhere between my two pictures in real life. It does look pretty intense under black light but the terrible formula is a deal breaker for me so I'll be passing this one along to a friend.
Christmas isn't over on the 25th at my house. We always have at least a few present opening sessions since everyone can't be here at the same time. I'm still wearing a pretty layering combination that's perfect for the holiday season. Sation I'm With The Bandana is one of my all time favorite polishes and I topped it with one coat of Sinful colors Holiday Rebel. Holiday Rebel has small green glitter and medium red hex glitter in a clear base. A subtle holiday look that I really like.
Gremlins is a Christmas movie right?
We made our own Krampus by modifying a moose dog toy. We taped up his antlers with black electrical tape & gave him a homemade switch. Then we added some evil yellow eyes and a curly long tongue made from craft foam, then mean eyebrows made with a black pipe cleaner for the final touch. I love him!
I love Zoya's recent Matte Velvet collection and I knew I'd be pulling them for holiday manicures as soon as they arrived. Here I present the fastest, easiest Christmas nails ever. I simply alternated Zoya Posh and Zoya Veruschka on my nails and the results are so fun. These polishes work best without base or top coats and they dry super fast. You could be out the door and super festive in almost no time; everyone loved them!
Many of you know that my blog is called concrete and nail polish because I make concrete! I have lots of gorgeous lazy susans (which have been featured on Apartment Therapy,The Kitchn, and Remodelista) in stock and ready to ship by Christmas. Lots of other fun concrete too. Check out my Etsy shop to see more.
Will and I had to put our beloved Wally to sleep on Monday. We went to visit
him at the hospital and he was distressed and confused and having lots
of trouble walking. The chances for improvement were not good and he
wasn't ok. I know this is an unpleasant thing to post about but I felt like I needed to do so since he's had his own category on my blog right from the start. He is always popping up in photos because he went outside with me everyday when I took pictures of my nails.
He was such a massive part of my every day and Will and I are having a hard time with his loss. I would love to hear what you've done to keep the memory of your beloved pet with you always. Did you get photos printed and framed? Maybe jewelry? I really fell like I need something tangible in the real world, more than my digital photos on the computer and phone. Any recommendations will be very much appreciated.
Also please feel free to share photos and stories of your beloved pets (those still with us or those who have passed on) in the comments too. I could use some cuteness to lighten my heart.
I posted a TON of photos and one video of Wally blowing in the warm wiond of the heating vent. It's so hard to choose and this is the last time he'll be in my blog so please indulge me and tell me how cute he was one more time.
I started with a base of Zoya Blu for the holly nails and Zoya Willa for the Jolly Roger accent nail. Next I pulled out my trusty SmartNails sticker stencil in their skull design and used Blu to make a great skull and crossbones that I could never do freehand. Finally I added holly berries with a dotting tool and Zoya Veronica and then carefully painted leaves with Zoya Josie. Holly leaves look easy but were quite time consuming and hard to get right. Turns out Smartnails has a very cute holly stencil too if you ever want to try these yourself.
Thanks for reading!
The smARTnails sticker stencils were sent to me for review. All opinions are my own &
