Layering With Zoya Bar and Frida

I'm a huge fan of the discontinued Pixie Dust polishes and would have been happy to have them in even more colors then they made so I tried layering to get a "new" Pixie Dust polish. This attempt didn't quite work but the idea is solid. I started with a base of Zoya Bar and then tried to brush a thin layer of Zoya Frida on top but it was a bit too streaky. I think this would have worked great if I had sponged on Frida instead. Still looked pretty from a distance though!

Nail Art With Zoya Pixie Dust

I was wearing Zoya Tomoko (my #1 favorite polish!) recently and decided to add a couple of other Pixie Dusts just for fun. I added swirls of Zoya Arlo and Arianna for a very textured manicure.

Pretty Pink Nails With Zoya

Every now and then I must use a polish that I can apply in one coat and doesn't need a topcoat because I need to get out the door soon. I always go to my blog to look at my one coat wonder category and this time I landed on Zoya Bobbi. What a great polish! Truly looks spectacular after one coat that practically applies itself with no clean up needed. No topcoat either since it's a foil and dries very quickly.
The next day I added an accent nail in Zoya Ginni for a pretty mixed texture Valentine's Day look. Lovely!
I love my giant socks from Sock Dreams so much. I'm 6' tall and these go ALL the way up and stay there.

Zoya Oswin

Zoya Oswin is from their Ultra Pixie Dust Collection.
Zoya Oswin didn't have the same problems as Noir and Arianna from the same set. It dried to a nicely textured matte finish. Very pretty polish that has been discontinued but is still currently available so get one now if you like it!

New York City Trip With Zoya!

Just got back from a super fun trip to NYC so I've got a few pictures to show you. If you follow me on Instagram you might have seen a few my nail updates but I'll repost them here with some further explanation.

I started off the trip wearing Zoya London with accent nails of Zoya Tomoko. As usual, everyone wants to know about Tomoko; if you don't have a bottle yet, hurry up before it's gone since it's been discontinued!
Over the course of the trip I started adding bits of Zoya Sunshine and later more Tomoko since my outfits got less grey and more blue and gold over the course the trip. Lots of fun and since Zoya Pixie Dusts dry so fast I could just add a bit whenever I had a few spare minutes. By the end of the trip I had geometric shapes and stripes in all three colors and each nail was different. You can see the progression below.

The highlights of the trip were definitely seeing a large exhibit of paintings and drawings by one of my favorite artists, Egon Schiele at the Neue Gallery and then seeing Black Sheep, Das FX, and ?uestlove at the Brooklyn Bowl. ?uestlove DJs there every Thursday and he walked right by us on his way to set up.

And here are 3 of my favorite pictures from the trip simply because I can't resist.
I call this one The Light and The Dark - NYC 2015. I just think it's hilarious that we accidentally walked around New York the whole time as color coordinated couples! Will and I are the light and my sister Alisa and her boyfriend are the dark. Also Alisa fit in better than all of us with her black puffy coat. EVERYONE seemed to be wearing black puffy coats!
Will posing with a stunning Chuck Close painting at the MEtropiltan Museum of Art.
Me laughing loudly where it just might have been illegal. My laugh is often loud enough to get me in trouble but people usually love it anyway.

New Year's Eve Nails

I had lots of fun this New Year's Eve! My friends and I made it to four parties. It was super cold and one event was a pajama party so I decided to wear my fancy velvet nightgown with pockets for the evening. Another party had a hilarious glamour shots photo booth setup and since I was wearing pajamas I decide I'd better kick things up a notch or three with my makeup and nails.

The nails were an easy choice for me. I went with Zoya Dovima with random bits of Zoya Cosmo. I absolutely love the combination of a matte polish with Cosmo which looks like crushed up diamonds! Perfect high glam nails that were lightning fast to do and got lots of attention throughout the night.
My makeup was much more challenging since I've never really worn much mainly because I don't know how. My sister Ashley recently suggested that I watch some of makeup artist Lisa Eldridge's videos and I'm so thankful she did! I found the perfect inspiration for a silly night on the town when anything goes in this video tutorial. I skipped the fake eyelashes and didn't go quite as dramatic with the eyeliner but even stripped down this look was way out of my comfort zone but oh so much fun! Everyone loved the stars on my cheek. All in all a great way to ring in 2015.
Glamour Shot!

Zoya Thea

Zoya Thea is from their Wishes collection for Winter/ Holidays 2014.
Zoya Thea is a Magical Pixie Dust, supposedly similar to their Spring and Summer sets. I loved their super textured look and the holographic glitter. Unfortunately, Thea and the other Magical Pixie Dusts from this set just don't have much Pixie Dust. Thea is still a truly pretty polish but it would be so much more exciting to me if it looked like the textured Pixie dusts I love so much.

The base color reminds me of the gorgeous Zoya Payton from last year's holiday collection. Zoya Thea was fairly easy to apply and is shown here at 2 coats. Dry time is longer than most Pixie Dusts and it never dried matte. I'll keep Thea for now and try it with a topcoat some day.

My amazing socks are from one of the best retail sites on the internet, Sock Dreams. I say they are one of the best because of the remarkable level of detail they use in their product descriptions. Listings are constantly being updated with new measurements not just for each batch of socks, but each color! If this months pink batch is tighter around the thigh than all the other pairs you will know before you order. They have a huge selection of socks and hosiery in a wide variety of sizes. I always go for over the knee and thigh socks. I'm 6' tall and I have several pairs that go all the way up to the top of my thighs! I've been spreading the gospel of Sock Dreams every winter for several years now simply because I think everyone could use some amazing socks to keep them warm and toasty all winter.

Zoya Imogen

Zoya Imogen is from their Wishes collection for Winter/ Holidays 2014.
Zoya Imogen is a Magical Pixie Dust, supposedly similar to their Spring and Summer sets. I loved their super textured look and the holographic glitter. Unfortunately, Imogen and the other Magical Pixie Dusts from this set just don't have much Pixie Dust. Imogen is also so packed with holographic glitter that I felt like my nails just looked messy. It doesn't dry matte but I don't think I'll like this one even with a top coat so I'll be passing it on to a friend. Overall the Wishes collection just doesn't do much for me.

Zoya Arianna

Looks like Zoya's press samples for their Ultra Pixie Dust collection had some issues so this post isn't representative of what you can purchase at Ulta or from Zoya. For an accurate representation please check out this great post from Lavish Layerings!
Zoya Arianna is from their Ultra Pixie Dust Collection.
Zoya Arianna is a wine colored Pixie Dust polish with red hex glitter. My bottle didn't look much like a Pixie Dust simply because it doesn't seem to have nearly enough of the Pixie Dust particles, allowing the jelly base color to show quite a bit and causing a strange finish that never dried matte. I love the color so I might have to go purchase a retail version since I love the Pixie Dust polishes so much.

Glamorous Glitter Gradient With Zoya

Zoya's Fall Trend Guide recommended using Tomoko for a gradient and it sounded like a great idea to me. As much as I love the Pixie Dusts, I'd never thought about using one quite this way. I paired 2 of my all time favorite Zoyas for a super easy but totally gorgeous version, Zoya Veruschka for the base topped with Zoya Tomoko. This would be a great look for the upcoming holiday season, either as is, or alternating Posh and Veruschka for all out Christmas glam!

Zoya Noir (Press Sample Version)

Looks like Zoya's press samples for their Ultra Pixie Dust collection had some issues so this post isn't representative of what you can purchase at Ulta or from Zoya. For an accurate representation please check out this great post from Lavish Layerings!
Zoya Noir is from their Ultra Pixie Dust Collection.
Zoya Noir is a deep rich plum Pixie Dust polish with red hex glitter. My bottle didn't look much like a Pixie Dust simply because it doesn't seem to have nearly enough of the Pixie Dust particles, allowing the jelly base color to show quite a bit and causing a strange finish that never dried matte. I love the color and I might have to go purchase a retail version of Noir since I love Pixie Dust polishes so much. I think mine will be great for nail art and it looks great with a top coat as pictured in the last photo.
Shown with top coat on my pinkie and ring finger.
