My First Drip Nail Art

When I got the Zoya Summer 2013 Pixie Dust collection, I immediately knew they would be perfect for my first attempt at a drip manicure. The results are exactly what I was hoping for; my nails look like they were dipped in melted sugar coated gumdrops!
I started with a base of Zoya Micky. Next I added drips of Zoya Destiny, Stevie, Solange, & Miranda. This nail art was so easy! I highly recommend trying this look as it is almost impossible to mess up.
Will says it reminds him of all of the Goosebumps book covers! I think he's right.

Zoya Micky

Zoya Micky is from their Summer 2013 Stunning Collection.

Zoya Micky is shown here at 3 coats. It's a bit streaky but I like the color so I'll keep it for now. I love Rocky, Darcy & Josie from this collection but I think you can skip the pinks & the orange because there are options for these colors with better formulas.

Fun Stripes With Zoya Josie & Liberty

I went to a wedding recently & I needed "elegant cocktail attire". (Thanks to the bride & groom for providing a link to exactly what kind of clothing you wanted!) I have lots of dresses but none quite fit the bill for me, too bright, too much pattern, too much cleavage, not dressy enough, etc. When I go to a wedding my goal is to be completely above reproach! Thankfully I found a beautiful peplum dress that fits me well. I did have a moment of panic when I saw another woman walking towards me in almost exactly the same dress (just a slightly different blue). I'd already seen groomsmen wearing cobalt blue ties & there was a cobalt blue ribbon on the description of the ceremony. I thought, "Oh no! Somehow I'm wearing the same dress as the bridesmaids!". Thankfully I was wrong, but I think I would have left if I had turned out to be correct! What would you have done?
Anyway I was already wearing Zoya Josie so I added some stripes of Zoya Liberty to match my dress. All in all a successful day & manicure.

Dotticure Inspired By Lucy's Stash

I keep a Pinterest board filled with my favorite nail art to use as inspiration when deciding what I'd like to try next. This time I chose a lovely manicure from the incomparable Lucy's Stash.
I started with a base of Zoya Darcy, then added dots of Zoya Amy & Zoya Hazel. Using a dotting tool to create nail art is really very easy to master allowing you to create manicures that look complex even though they are actually quite low on the difficulty scale. The hardest part about this one was choosing colors!

Zoya Darcy

Zoya Darcy is from their Summer 2013 Stunning Collection.

Zoya describes Darcy as a warm sunny yellow creme & I wholeheartedly agree. I don't have another yellow creme quite like it in my stash. Maybe not the most flattering with my skin tone but I'm keeping it anyway!
Zoya's blog recently featured a post about how to apply white & pastel creme polishes. These polishes are notorious for being rather difficult to apply well & I would include any yellow creme in this category. I decided to try the manicurist's advice of starting with a thin layer (not worrying about streaks at all), followed by a medium coat, followed by a final very thin coat to even out any streaks.
I have to say it worked quite well. The first thin coat of Darcy looked like a streaky mess but by the second medium coat, my nails only had a few streaks left. I finished with a very thin coat, just looking for streaks & I had an almost perfect finish. More importantly for me, I didn't have a ton of polish on my nails like I always do when I normally apply difficult cremes. I have a bad tendency to make my polish coats way too thick. I've been working to correct this bad habit & Zoya's suggestions will go a long way towards breaking me of this manicure mistake.

Mid Century Mod Gravel Nail Art With Zoya Pixie Dusts

The sparkly sandy finish of the Zoya Pixie Dust polishes reminds me of mid century gravel art like this example! I started with a base of Zoya Stevie then added half circles of Zoya Beatrix, finished with an outline in Zoya London. I might try a more elaborate version some time in the future.

Zoya Stevie: A New Top 5 Favorite!

Zoya Stevie is a stunning polish from the Summer 2013 Pixie Dust collection.

Zoya PixieDust Special Texture Edition Image</p>

Here's what Zoya has to say about this collection.

Infused with even more magic and wonder! Because everyone wants more of it... The color experts at Zoya went back to the lab and created six more beautiful, long-wearing textured, matte and sparkle Zoya PixieDust Colors for Summer 2013! The incredible and best-selling formula is sure to captivate with a magical sparkle and sugary finish like no other.

IMPORTANT PixieDust Application Information - Do not use a base coat or top coat. Apply 1-3 (for full coverage) thin coats of polish. Allow product to dry down completely matte in between layers for full textured effect. The PixieDust textured formula may take up to 10 minutes to dry completely matte. Once dry, the textured finish is long lasting, matte and ultra-glittery!

Zoya Stevie is a new top 5 favorite polish for me. I just can't get enough of the Pixie Dust polishes & this one has stolen my heart. Stevie is a pretty orchid purple that looks good with 2 coats but even better at 3. Easy to apply as long you wait a bit between coats to avoid dragging. The Pixie Dust polishes never require clean up because they stay right where you put them, never any pooling. They are great for nail art for the same reason.
I am a voracious reader. You can check out what I'm reading on my Goodreads profile!
