Essie Da Bush

Somehow Essie Da Bush ended up in my stash without me ever trying it! I discovered this when I sued it for some nail art and realized that I'd never blogged about before. Too bad since it's a new favorite for sure!

Essie Da Bush is from Essie's Resort collection way back in 2011. It's not part of their current polish lineup but it can still be found online if you do some digging. Da Bush is unique in my collection of green cremes and I find it super flattering plus it goes with most all of my wardrobe. Shown here at 2 easily applied coats with a nice formula. I'll always hate Essie's skinny brush but that is just a personal preference. I didn't want to take this color off of my nails!

Essie Tart Deco

Essie Tart Deco is now part of their core line. Essie makes lots of pretty polishes and I love Essie Good To Go and their Ridge Filling Base Coat but I really hate their skinny brush. Tart Deco is a pretty coral creme but the formula is very streaky and prone to dragging - shown here at 3 coats. I have other similar colors so I'll be passing this one along.

Essie Mink Muffs

Essie Mink Muffs is part of their core line. It's a sort of smoky milk chocolate creme color that looks great on lots of people. I still hate Essie's skinny brush but the formula is perfectly fine and opaque in 2 coats.

Essie Angora Cardi

Essie Angora Cardi is originally from their Fall 2009 collection but is still readily available. I still don't like Essie's super skinny brushes at all and the formula was a bit thick at first. Angora applied nicely after adding just a couple of drops of thinner though. I initially thought this color was a bit boring and planned to pass it along to a friend but I decided to keep it after wearing it for a couple of days and getting several compliments on the shade. It ended up being a very flattering medium toned mauve that looked great with lots of my wardrobe!
This book is fascinating; so glad to be alive now! You can keep up with what I'm reading on Goodreads.

Quick Glitter Gradient

Glitter gradients always look lovely & take very little time to accomplish. Definitely my go to look when I want a little bit of bling in a hurry. This version started with Essie Limited Addiction, then I topped it off with OMG Gorgeous from The Painted Nail By Nubar.

Essie Brazilliant

This is 3 coats of Essie Brazilliant from their summer 2011 collection. Super bright, but not neon orange with a barely visible pink micro-shimmer. I kind of hate Essie's tiny brush, but that is a personal preference. The formula was a little thick but still manageable.

Not a color I'll be reaching for often but it's staying in my stash since I don't have very many orange polishes.

Big Ruby Nail Tattoo Review & How-To

I won the whole collection of Big Ruby Nail Tattoos from Vampy Varnish & I love them!!! I've already done a manicure with them before which can be seen in this post.

I'd painted my nails the day before with Essie Absolutely Shore. You definitely want your polish to be fully dry before applying one of the tattoos.
Each set comes with instructions.
It's so hard to choose from all of Big Ruby's cool designs, but I finally decided on a few tattoos form the Sea collection. Simply cut out the tattoos you want to use.
Then peel off the protective film.
Place the design face down on your nail. I marked the location of the design on the back to help me with placement.
Then just press a wet rag on the tattoo for 10-15 seconds.
Peel of the paper and you're already almost finished!
Big Ruby formulated a top coat to work particularly well with their nail tattoos. It's a great glossy topcoat that dries fast.
I did discover that the yellow shell didn't show up well over the another pastel. I was pretty sure that it wouldn't but I wanted to try for this how-to post. I tried another yellow shell over a darker color and it showed up perfectly.
Gorgeous except for my mistake with the low contrast between the yellow shell & the pale green!

I think these are so much fun and pretty much fool proof!

Essie Absolutely Shore

This is 3 coats of the lovely Essie Absolutely Shore from their Summer 2011 collection. It's a very pale sea foam green creme. Not stark or chalky like some pastels, but very soft.
Pastel cremes are almost always a bit tricky. This one was better than most but still bit difficult compared to your average polish. It's streaky for the first two coats, but evened out by the third. I'm a big fan of large brushes since my nails are so wide, so the Essie brush always seems tiny to me. That is definitely just a personal preference though. I know lots of you hate wide brushes!
Overall a pretty polish that is definitely staying in my stash.

Essie Merino Cool

This is 3 coats of Essie Merino Cool, a medium toned, purplish taupe. I like it much better in my photos than I did in real life. Does that ever happen to you?

I finally started a Concrete and Nail Polish facebook page for those of you who like to keep up with blogs through facebook. I've also posted galleries of my favorite colors & my favorite manicures that I've done since starting my blog.

Essie Sew Psyched & An Accent Nail

This is 2 coats of Essie Sew Psyched. The formula was a little thick & it dries much darker than the bottle. It's a dusty, grayish green with subtle shimmer that you can only see in full sunshine. Most of the time it just looks like a creme. It's a fairly unique color and one I definitely like, but I didn't fall head over heels for it like I thought I would.

The next night I used one of my smARTnails sticker stencils for an pretty accent nail. The combination of Essie Sew Psyched and Sinful Vacation Time feels very Art Deco to me.

Essie In Stitches & smART Nails

This is 3 coats of Essie In Stitches. Nice formula and lovely color! It's a dark & dusty rose creme & I like it so much that I've already worn it twice.

The next day I used some my smART Nails sticker stencils and Zoya Kym. Not my favorite combination, but just fine.

Essie Chinchilly

This is 2 coats of Essie Chinchilly. It's a gorgeous grey creme, but still doesn't beat Recycle. Chinchilly seems to have some yellow undertones. What's your favorite grey creme? Or are you opposed to grey polish in general?

I have major World Cup Fever! Ashley and I went to Germany for the last World Cup 4 years ago. We get up early for every game and occasionally even scream at the television. It's the biggest thing that happens on the planet and I get totally caught up in the magic! And the men! That's how I first got hooked on the World Cup way back in 1994. I was flipping channels when suddenly my tv screen was filled with beautiful men from around the world!

So now I present to you April's World Cup Hottie of the Day! Today's pick is Diego Lugano playing for Uruguay! I don't know all of the ins & outs of posting photos that you find on the internet, so unless one of you can help explain the rules to me, I'll just link to a photo. (That's allowed right?)

Latest Water Marble

I love water marbling! It's pretty easy and the results are cool. This is a base of Essie Adore-a-ball, marbled with Essie Mint Candy Apple, American Apparel Hassid & Essence Go Wild. All of these three polishes worked great for marbling!

There are lots of great tutorials around for doing a water marble, so I'll just tell you what I do differently.

I start by grabbing whatever chapstick I have around and putting that around my nails to make cleaning up my skin much easier. I've tried tape, but i thought it was annoying. Vaseline put on with a brush works great too, but the chapstick is the easiest thing I've tried so far.

I use a dish that is large enough for there to be some water surface without any polish. I then dip my finger straight down into the water without polish and bring it face-up under my favorite part of the design. I think most people put their nail face-down into the design, but I find this awkward. It works great for most people, but if you're feeling frustrated with that method, try it this way and see how it goes.

The part I would really like to improve is making designs in the polish after dropping them into the water. Does anyone have favorite links to tutorials?

Essie Adore-a-ball

I won Essie Adore-a-ball from the Lacquer Lady's giveaway. This is 4 streaky coats. It looks great from a distance but streaky up close. Sheer, soft, just barely pink. The picture below was taken in strong sunlight.

I love this color and even the visible nail line though! So pretty!

Can anyone recommend a similar, just barely pink polish that isn't streaky?
