Abstract Modern Christmas Nails

I've actually done this color combo before but it's just so perfect for Christmas! Here we have Maybelline Keep Up The Flame topped with one coat of the fabulous Sation Ego-Friendly.

Gradient With Bar Glitter

Bar glitter is hard to get right and often quite hideous. I'm still drawn to them occasionally though which is why I bought Nails Inc Feathers Chester on a whim. It looks so pretty all stacked up in the bottle!

I picked the colors from my last gradient specifically to go with it. I think it turned out pretty well!

Orly Fowl Play

Orly Fowl Play is from their 2011 Birds of a Feather collection. It's a dark purple jelly with  multichrome flakies and silver and turquoise micro glitter. Shown here at 3 coats but you could definitely get away with 2 for a more sheer look. Applies nicely and just a lovely and unique polish all around. Orly makes my favorite brush and caps as an added bonus.

Layering With Sally Hansen Pearl Crush

Sally Hansen's new Pearl Crush polishes are very interesting glitter toppers but a little tough to figure out so I've got lots to say about them! Here we have Sally Hansen She Sells layered over Sally Hansen Bare Hug.

Pearl Crush polishes have fairly large hexagon mylar glitters that constantly shift colors, really gorgeous glitters! She Sells also has very fine beige shimmer. It applies nicely and I didn't need to do any fishing for the large glitter. The glitters did occasionally stick to each other though creating very small stacks of 2-4 glitters. It was very easy to spot and fix with the brush (I just touched them again and then placed the glitter where I wanted it) and some people might not have noticed. I applied 2 coats mostly to make sure the shimmer didn't have any brushstrokes.

I really love this layering combination and think the Pearl Crush polishes are worth a look if you like unique polishes. The glitter looks like drops of water constantly catching the light which had me staring at my nails!

Layering With Sally Hansen

I picked up Sally Hansen Sea-ing Stars on a whim and tried it out right before an event. It ended up being way too sheer to wear alone so I saved the day by topping it with my beloved Sally Hansen Distressed Denim Crackle polish. I'll always love crackles!

Layering With Sally Hansen Pearl Crush Polishes

Sally Hansen's new Pearl Crush polishes are very interesting but a little tough to figure out so I've got lots to say about them! Here we have Sally Hansen Mer-Mint and Shell And Tell layered over Sally Hansen Slick Black. The three Pearl Crush polishes I've tried are too sheer to be worn alone and are meant to be layered but I had a hard time figuring out what colors to choose for a base coat for these two; black seemed like a good default choice.

Both Pearl Crush polishes have fairly large hexagon mylar glitters that constantly shift colors, really gorgeous glitters! Mer-Mint also has a duochrome shimmer that shifts between turquoise and pink and Shell And Tell has a pink shimmer. The polishes apply nicely and I didn't need to do any fishing for the large glitter. The glitters did occasionally stick to each other though creating very small stacks of 2-4 glitters. It was very easy to spot and fix with the brush (I just touched them again and then placed the glitter where I wanted it) and some people might not have noticed. I applied 2 coats of each mostly to make sure the shimmer didn't have any brushstrokes.

Overall the effect was quite remarkable. I decided the glitter looked like droplets of water that were constantly catching the light. I think I could have picked a better base color for both polishes though. These aren't for everyone but if you love unique polishes give them a try! I have one more Pearl Crush to show you soon and it is by far my favorite of the three I tried.

Nails Inc Feathers Chester

I grabbed Nails Inc Feathers Chester on a whim and I'm so glad I did, what a fun polish! I'm not usually a fan of bar glitters but this one is lovely. The way the bars stack up in the bottle is very satisfying too.

I chose a base color in the same tone and opacity as the glitters but in a different shade, Lime Crime Lavendairy. I think the lavender works great with the matte yellow, orange, and blue glitters. Super cool and easy to apply; great polish!

ORLY Star Trooper

ORLY Star Trooper is from their space inspired Galaxy FX set.
ORLY Star Trooper is shown here at 2 easily applied coats using my absolute favorite brush handle/cap - I LOVE the rubber grip. Star Trooper is a sheer charcoal base absolutely packed with glitter - very small gold, small matte white circles, and medium silver hexes. It's actually a bit too packed since I think it would look more spacey if the circles and hexes were much sparser. Still an interesting polish and a great idea for a collection!

Sally Hansen Insta Ombre Scarlet Spark

Sally Hansen Insta Ombre Scarlet Spark is from a new summer 2015 collection full of fine glitters in clear polishes meant to be used for glitter gradients. With all of the crazy glitters on the market this collection is a nice change of pace and perfectly suited for it's intended use.
Scarlet Spark is a mix of very fine red and silver glitters that I used here for a glitter gradient over one coat of Sally Hansen Polar Bare. Great formula and very pretty.

Mixing Finishes With Zoya

This is a bit outside of my comfort zone and I'm not sure what I think of the finished manicure but I love the colors. I started with a base of Zoya Rayne and then added a stripe of Zoya Raine - a pretty sheer topper. Finally I added a bit of one of my favorite glitter toppers, Zoya Monet.

Glitter French For St. Patrick's Day

This manicure is not really my style but I think it's good to try things outside of your comfort zone even if it just lets you know that you really don't like something. I started with the horrid Revlon Fresh Linen and then added a french tip in BB Couture Poison Ivy. I topped the whole thing with Sinful Colors Call You Later. I'm rarely a fan of glitter toppers and Sinful Call You Later is no exception. Overall I think this manicure is not for me even though it is perfect for St Patrick's Day.

Revlon For Valentine's Day

Here are some quick and easy Valentine's Day nails for you. I started with a base of Revlon Spice It Up and then added a layer of Revlon Sparkling to most of my nails. Revlon Sparkling is a clear base with small circle and medium hex glitter in a nice rosey pink, not my style but pretty. I'm not usually a fan of most glitter toppers though. I added a large heart of Revlon sparkling for an accent nail. Pretty manicure even if it's a bit out of my comfort zone.

Layering With Milani Diamond Dazzle

I'm not usually interested in glitter toppers but Milani Diamond Dazzle is awfully pretty! This is one coat of Diamond Dazzle layered over Milani Deep Thoughts. I love the delicate pastel glitter and it was very easy to apply with great coverage in just one coat. Easy to remove for a glitter polish too.

Quick Glitter Gradient

Glitter gradients will probably always be my favorite go to nail look. They are fast, easy, foolproof, and fancy every time. For this version I started with a base of Milani Blackberry Baby and then added Sation Rich In Opportunities. I really wish Sation was still making polish; they had so many great colors and I loved their wide brush. Do any of you have any beloved Sations?
